Isn't peace what we all say that we're looking for in our world today? Between peace talks and discussions on "world peace", we also have those who just want some peace in their everyday moments. Jesus says this about peace:
But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. ~John 14:26-27
What does this tell us about peace?
- Real peace is attainable
Peace is there for the taking. It is a gift. He leaves it with us and gives it to us. But just like every other gift, we have to unwrap and accept the gift. We have to choose to let peace rule our lives instead of the chaos. And that is ultimately possible through Christ. - Real peace is different from worldly peace
You can't buy or earn peace. You may have peace of mind, but any peace that the world offers will be short lived. Cancer rips peace from families every day. Most Americans live paycheck to paycheck. You may have peace now, but would you be filled with peace if you lost your job tomorrow? - Real peace comes from the Holy Spirit
The world can't offer any security like the peace of God gives. This isn't peaceful times or seasons. Not quiet times or times of reprieve. Real peace carries you through the chaos and is only attainable through Christ by the Holy Spirit. - Real peace relieves your troubled spirit
Friends, we have a choice to make. We can surrender our lives and trust God, or we can spend our lives worrying and panicking over the small and big storms in our lives. I've found, like a child reaching for the arms of their parent, it is easier to go through life in His arms than on my own effort.
